National Environmental Policy Act

The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969 (42 U.S.C. 4321-4347) is our basic national charter for protection of the environment. The purpose of NEPA is:

  • To promote efforts that will prevent, mitigate, or eliminate damage to the environment,
  • To promote efforts that will stimulate the health and welfare of humans,
  • To enrich the understanding of the ecological systems and natural resources important to the Nation, and
  • To establish a Council on Environmental Quality.

  • Issuance of an Incidental Take Permit to Fruit Growers Supply Company. November 2012

    The NMFS and USFWS received applications from Fruit Growers Supply Company for Incidental Take Permits pursuant to Section10(a)(1)(B) of the federal Endangered Species Act. The Incidental Take Permits would authorize incidental take of covered species on the applicant’s commercial timberland in Siskiyou County, California. This Environmental Impact Statement ) addresses the potential environmental effects that may occur as a result of approving the applications.
